Dear Friend,

As we move toward Giving Tuesday, we’re grateful to have you as part of our community. Your engagement — whether you’ve supported us for years or recently joined our list — helps ensure LGBTQ immigrants are not forgotten during some of the hardest moments of their lives.

When Jabokie first arrived in the U.S., he held onto one dream: to open a salon where LGBTQ people could feel safe, seen, and beautiful. But before he could build that future, he experienced homelessness and deep uncertainty while trying to navigate the asylum system alone. Immigration Equality’s legal team listened to him — truly listened — and that was the first time he felt seen for who he really was.

After working with our attorneys, he won asylum, became a U.S. citizen, and opened Alamo Hair & Design — a thriving space he intentionally created as a refuge for LGBTQ people and anyone who needs community. His story reflects what becomes possible when LGBTQ immigrants finally have access to safety and support.
