BIG NEWS: We are proud to welcome Paula Jean Swearengin back to the Brand New Congress slate for 2020!

Paula Jean is once again running for U.S. Senate in West Virginia, and this time she's taking on Republican incumbent Shelley Moore-Capito.
In 2018, Paula Jean garnered more primary votes than any U.S. Senate challenger ever has in West Virginia. She is building a robust grassroots campaign and, just like all BNC candidates, she refuses to take a dime from corporate PACs.

If we want progresslive legislation passed, we must elect true progressives to the Senate. Shelley Moore-Capito has consistently put her party and big donors before the people she's supposed to represent. The incumbent is a die-hard GOP loyalist who falls in line behind Mitch McConnell everytime. She voted to take healthcare away from thousands of West Virginians, and despite the outcry from her constituents, she voted alongside Joe Manchin to confirm Betsy DeVos and Brett Kavanaugh.

Paula Jean isn’t a millionaire or a career politician. She understands the struggles in Appalachia because she’s lived them. She’s a coal miner’s daughter and granddaughter and she has been fighting for West Virginia for decades. Now she is taking that fight to the halls of the U.S. Senate.
“Families are suffering because our representatives in Washington D.C. simply do not work for us. We deserve representatives who have lived our struggles.

The people of Appalachia have kept the lights on for the nation for over a century. While corporations have gotten wealthy off the backs of our workers and our communities, industries have drained our communities and left us ravaged by pollution and poverty.
We deserve better. We deserve a Senator who will put constituents first, regardless of party. That is why I have decided to run for U.S. Senate for 2020 in West Virginia.”

Paula Jean is fighting for the Green New Deal to help the hard working coal miners transition to a new energy economy with the income security, healthcare, and opportunities they deserve. In the Senate, she will lead the charge for Medicare for All, investments in infrastructure, education, federally funded childcare, and protecting workers' right to organize from industry fat cats who are trying to dismantle West Virginia's proud union heritage.

The 2020 election year is critical. To see legislation make it passed McConnell’s desk, we must elect a new Senate.

Can you contribute today to Brand New Congress and Paula Jean Swearengin to help us garner the resources she needs to mount a state-wide campaign?
