And this year one of the things we are most thankful for is the opportunity to argue a critical case at the Supreme Court. In less than a week, we’ll be traveling to Washington D.C. to argue on behalf of Gabe Olivier.

And the justices’ decision will impact all Americans, religious or not.

Gabe was arrested, handcuffed, and loaded into the police cruiser for violating a Brandon, Mississippi city ordinance that requires demonstrations near the city’s amphitheater to take place in a designated “protest area.”

Only Gabe wasn’t protesting.

Gabe was attempting to share his faith with other visitors in the public park where the amphitheater was located.

The Brandon ordinance is a clear violation of the First Amendment.

This law doesn’t just regulate when and where people can speak. It also prevents people like Gabe from freely sharing their faith in the city park.

Yet when Gabe attempted to challenge its constitutionality and future enforcement, he was denied his day in court.

Instead, the judge ruled that because Gabe had pled no contest and paid the fine, he had no right to challenge the city ordinance.
