Justice Democrats

John,

Our newest Justice Democrats endorsement in the 2026 cycle is Darializa Avila Chevalier: a 31-year-old, Afro-Latina, organizer, union member, and daughter of Dominican immigrants.

From successfully organizing to take down the statue of J. Marion Sims — a 19th-century gynecologist who experimented on enslaved women without anaesthesia — that had stood for 100+ years in Central Park, to freeing New Yorkers detained by ICE, to her current work as an investigator at a public defender’s office in Harlem, her career has always centered around fighting for New Yorkers.

Darializa also worked side-by-side with fellow Columbia University graduate Mahmoud Khalil in helping organize Columbia’s student encampment in support of a free Palestine from 2023 to 2024.

When Mahmoud was violently ripped off the streets by masked ICE agents and kept cruelly jailed in an ICE detention center during the birth of his first child, NY-13’s current representative did nothing but release a statement. What does his Congressman have to say about it? “I expect the Department of Justice to work within the confines of the law.”

Espaillat has proven unable or unwilling to stand up to the lawlessness of the Trump administration, letting his own constituents like Mahmoud suffer as ICE continues to terrorize our communities.

As Zohran Mamdani showed us just earlier this month in New York City, we have an opportunity to replace a corporate, Do-Nothing Democrat with a young, working-class fighter who will treat Trump’s fascism as the grave threat it is.

In NY-13, that fighter is Darializa.

We have just six months to make it happen: will you pitch in anything you can to elect Darializa and give NY-13 the fighter in Congress it deserves?
