Important news from Congress about the fight against gun violence:
Rep. Wesley Hunt has unveiled a proposal to roll back a lifesaving gun violence prevention law passed after Uvalde. We will not let Congress undo what victims’ families fought so hard to win.
Hunt’s proposal would cut off federal funding for states that implement red flag laws — critically important measures which allow law enforcement and family members to petition a judge to seize a person's firearms if they are considered a danger to themselves or others. It would also end expanded background checks on gun buyers under 21 years of age.
March For Our Lives and the families affected by the Uvalde shooting fought for these bipartisan protections so that no other parent would be forced to bury their child. Now a member of Congress wants to do the gun lobby’s dirty work and erase our hard-won progress.
We know exactly what repealing this law would do. It would mean more fear, more violence, and more lives at risk. The horror the Uvalde parents felt on that terrible day — it would mean more of that.
We refuse to let that happen.
This is exactly the moment our movement was built for. Since 2018, March For Our Lives has trained thousands of young organizers, helped pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and pushed for over 300 state-level protections that save lives. We know how to fight rollbacks: we organize, we show up, and we win.
Thank you,
March For Our Lives
