By any account, 2020 has been a challenging year, unlike anything we’ve seen before. Times of national crisis in American history require us all, regardless of party, to work together to help those in need.
Last week, my Virginia colleague Representative Wittman and I co-authored AN OP-ED IN THE FREE LANCE-STAR calling for Congress to WORK TOGETHER TO CONTINUE PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR NURSING HOMES, LONG-TERM CARE, AND ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES.

WE MUST ADDRESS THIS CRISIS AMONG OUR MOST VULNERABLE POPULATION AND THOSE CARING FOR THEM. THIS SHOULD NOT BE A MATTER OF DEBATE.
Congress passed the CARES Act in March, which gave immediate relief to overwhelmed, underfunded hospitals nationwide. However, not enough funding went to long-term care or assisted living facilities. BOTH DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS RECOGNIZED THE NEED FOR CONTINUED FUNDING, AND I’M COMMITTED TO WORKING ACROSS THE AISLE TO MAKE SURE THIS HAPPENS.
The people living in these facilities are all part of the generation that raised us, empowered us, and sacrificed so much for us. It’s our time to pay it back to them and make sure that their facilities receive the critical care and attention they need.
I FEEL SO FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO FIGHT FOR THE GENERATIONS WHO CAME BEFORE US AND OTHER VULNERABLE GROUPS DURING THIS TRYING TIME. I HOPE YOU WILL ENTRUST ME WITH THIS HONOR AND RESPONSIBILITY ONCE AGAIN IN NOVEMBER.
