Editor’s note: This special report on what is known thus far about the deadly coronavirus was released today by the Associated Press. We publish it because the information contained in it sheds light on what we are facing during the dark days of this pandemic. It is clear that, in addition to embracing the safety measures mentioned in this article, we have to take the important step on November 3 of removing Donald Trump and all his enablers from office. As the pandemic ramps up again across the nation, Trump is ordering hospitals to report data directly to his administration, bypassing the Centers for Disease Control. We join with those in the press who are determined to continue to get out the truth, regardless of this administration’s attempts to shut down the flow of information.

Seven months after the first patients were hospitalized in China battling an infection doctors had never seen before, the world’s scientists and citizens have reached an unsettling crossroads.

Countless hours of treatment and research, trial and error now make it possible to take much closer measure of the new coronavirus and the lethal disease it has unleashed. But to take advantage of that intelligence, we must confront our persistent vulnerability: The virus leaves no choice.
