We did it! We won the primary election for Congress in one of the most flippable seats in America...Texas 24.
PCCC members across the country donated thousands to help win this primary. Thank you!
Working families are facing enormous challenges with student debt, high prescription drug prices, unfair wages, and a broken health care system. Now, our fight to create meaningful change on these issues and more is headed to the General Election.
You may not know this, but had it not been for the PCCC's candidate training, I might not have considered running for Congress.
I was already the first Latina on my local school board but at the PCCC training, for the first time, I realized that I could run for Congress as myself. As I told PCCC members on a recent Zoom call, it was startling!
I'm not afraid of breaking barriers. I'm not afraid of trying to go up against seemingly insurmountable odds because my survival, my family's survival, and our country's survival depends on it.
I'm running for Congress because the opportunities that helped me go from being homeless as a kid living in a kiddie pool outside of a gas station, to the first in my family to go to college, to the first woman of color on my school board are under attack.
My opponent Beth Van Duyne is an extreme, right-wing Trump Republican that threatens communities of color and working families across TX-24. She’s built a career by publicly spouting hate and Islamophobia while, at the same time, taking thousands from corporate PACs including from the Koch Brothers.
Texas is now ground zero in the fight to expand our majority in the House. Texas is also increasingly a presidential battleground. Joe Biden just started airing ads here. Our Get Out The Vote program will help win this increasing presidential battleground too.
I'm so proud to be endorsed by the PCCC. Thank you so much for what you're doing getting progressives elected at all levels of office. Onward!
-- Candace Valenzuela, candidate for Congress (TX-24)
