Dear John,
National is fixing the basics. We’ve mandated an hour a day of maths, reading, and writing, banned cell phones, stopped open-plan classrooms, and refreshed the curriculum. Our reforms are delivering real results for students. In reading, 58% of new entrants are now meeting expectations, up from 36%, and 43% are exceeding expectations - more than double the Term 1 rate. Today, I’m pleased to share new data shows our new approach to maths is working. Year 7-8 students who were behind on maths made 1-2 years’ progress in just 12 weeks. By Teaching the Basics Brilliantly, every child is getting a better shot at the life they deserve thanks to National.
