This month we sent out our 2025 Post-Election Survey to get this community’s thoughts on how this year went and where we stand as we look toward the midterm elections next year. We received over 1,500 responses, and we’re grateful for your input because this community powers everything Swing Left achieves. What we do, we do together—and we couldn’t do any of it without you. Here are some of the main takeaways:

• Those of you who volunteered this year (around half of respondents) overwhelmingly described your experiences as positive, using words like “great,” “fulfilling,” “rewarding,” and “empowering” to describe the work done with Swing Left. Many also said volunteering helped them stop feeling powerless and get more connected amidst the chaos our country has experienced this year.
  
  
• Others included helpful feedback about wanting more visibility into the impact your work made on election outcomes, and to think through how to keep our community of volunteers motivated without burning out.
  
  
• When asked what Democrats should do differently, many of you pointed to a clear need for sharper, more grounded messaging based on what people are experiencing in their everyday lives—on the cost of living, the economy, healthcare, and housing.

This through line—a desire for deeper connection, clearer impact, and Democrats’ better understanding of what voters actually care about—is a big part of why Swing Left is expanding our new canvassing program, Ground Truth, nationwide. By talking with every voter and putting a strong emphasis on listening, we can gather the insights needed to help Democratic candidates understand what people are experiencing and what matters most to them.

And for volunteers, it offers what so many of you said you value and look for—connection and a sense of genuine impact. In our pilot canvasses, 91% of volunteers said they would recommend Ground Truth canvassing to a friend. Here’s how one volunteer described his experience:

“I drove home thinking that Ground Truth can provide so many benefits like hearing issues first hand, establishing a deeper relationship with voters AND it also occurred to me that it can be a real differentiator in terms of the brand of the Democratic Party.”
