(Berlin, Germany) — Counter Extremism Project is delighted that Dr Hans-Jakob Schindler has been appointed to the reformed Task Force for the Prevention and Combat of Islamist Extremism in Germany. His extensive expertise in terrorism finance, sanctions, and international counter-extremism efforts positions him uniquely to make a powerful contribution to this vital initiative.
With a distinguished career that spans diplomacy, intelligence, and multilateral sanctions work — including his role as Coordinator of the UN Security Council’s ISIL/Al-Qaida/Taliban Sanctions Monitoring Team — Dr Schindler brings both deep knowledge and strategic insight to the challenge of extremist financing and disruption.
Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, CEO of the Counter Extremism Project, said:
“I am delighted to offer my warm congratulations to Hans on this vital appointment. Hans is one of the world’s leading experts on terrorism finance and Islamist extremist networks, and his insight and experience will add enormous value to the Task Force’s mission. Germany’s renewed focus on combating Islamist extremism is both timely and essential, and Hans will be an exceptional asset in helping shape an effective national response.”
Dr Hans-Jakob Schindler, Senior Director, Counter Extremism Project said:
“I am pleased to join the Task Force at a moment when improving the disruption of extremist and terrorist financing has never been more important. I look forward to contributing to this crucial work and supporting the Federal Government in developing strong, coordinated responses to evolving Islamist threats.”
The reform of the Task Force by the German Federal Government demonstrates a serious commitment to tackling Islamist extremism and terrorism at home. Its work will also feed into the formulation of a new national action plan to counter this threat more effectively. We strongly support this mission and believe that Dr Schindler’s participation will help advance targeted disruption of extremist finance and funding networks, strengthen collaboration across governments and the private sector, and enhance Germany’s capacity to respond innovatively to evolving threats.
We look forward to closely following the Task Force’s work, and stand ready to support wherever our research, policy expertise, or network can add value. Congratulations once again to Dr Schindler — we are confident his leadership will make a meaningful difference.
