As a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, I can tell you it's the holidays that were the most difficult days to be deployed.

I remember being stationed in Japan when Thanksgiving rolled around. Some of us gathered our money, and we bought a Thanksgiving meal to go.

We didn't really have a place to eat it — then we remembered the USO. They had a nice little room, and it was the only place that wasn't going to charge us to sit together and eat our Thanksgiving meal.

We brought all our food and broke bread together right there in the USO Center. And it made the day special.

There are thousands of service members who are far from home this Thanksgiving, protecting our nation while we get to celebrate with our loved ones. They need your support.
