John,
I'm Heather, and for the past five years, I've been a full-time caregiver for my mother who has Alzheimer's, while also working three jobs to support my family.
This pandemic has been really hard for us, as it has for many families. I was laid off from one of my jobs, and the in-home care my mother relies on has been delayed or inadequate as her caregivers quarantine to keep their families safe
Congress needs to pass new relief and support for caregiving families, to ensure we can continue to care for our loved ones while keeping ourselves and our communities safe from the virus. Will you join me to urge Congress to take action as soon as they return to Washington next week?

I know I'm not alone in this -- millions of families are facing the same pressures. While the stimulus check we received back in March was helpful, our government has not done enough to support caregiving families.
People have relied on the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance -- the $600 bonus Congress added to unemployment insurance -- but that program expires at the end of the month.
Back in May, the House passed a bill that would provide additional stimulus checks, institute much-needed family leave, and expand Medicaid funding, which would make it easier for me to afford my mom's care -- but that bill never made it out of Congress, so family caregivers are still waiting for help.
Since then, the situation has only gotten worse. COVID cases are spiking in states across the country, and expanded unemployment benefits are about to run out. Families like mine will be out of options soon if Congress doesn't act.
As a full-time caregiver for my mother with Alzheimers, I know that caregiving families need more support. We need more funding for home- and community-based services to make sure people like my mom can stay home, where they can be safer and happier. We need priority access to PPE and testing for caregivers. And we need paid leave, health services, and help for essential workers.
Congress has waited too long already, and caregiving families need support. Will you join me to sign a petition urging Congress to provide real support to caregiving families?
