Hello, True Texans!
Politics, schmolitics! First things first -- let's talk about the holidays! We've got parties going on all over the state. There's one more Thanksgiving party left (it's in Grapevine, and there are only 3 seats left!). And then Christmas! Join us for Dueling Pianos in the DFW area. Man, we have so much fun that night! But alas, if you can't travel to the Metroplex, there are many other TTP parties planned. Always watch our calendar items via email or on our website.
Last Call For Scholarship Applications! We now have 3 applications submitted and at least 2 more coming, though I know after the Thanksgiving break, lots more will come in. Remember, the deadline is 11:59pm on Nov 30 - that's next Sunday! All entries get free Christmas party tickets for their families, which is fun, plus a chance to win one of 3 prizes. The most common question I get is, "Can I spend the prize money any way I want?" YES! It is cash in the student's pocket. It does not have to go to a college or anywhere except where the student wants to use it. :-) Get those entries in! Click here for details.
Speaking of the youth... Yesterday we hosted our last in-person Certified True Texan Youth training, at least for awhile. We recorded it so we can put it online for future use. Check out these newly certified students!
H1B Visas Don't miss this! The hottest topic in Texas right now is the Islamization of our great state. Those H1B visas are a big factor. They also are a big factor regarding unemployment for Americans, among other issues. You only have until Nov 30 to share your opinion with the Federal government. Yes, they are actually asking for your input. Don't squander this opportunity. Fran put together a very helpful guide. Do it now!
Campaign Endorsements Our Board has been working hard on endorsements for the March Primary. We've still go a long way to go, and our satellites will jump in with some of the more local races, but we've already got 61 counties on our list!
Here are some key endorsements for statewide offices you might be interested in, including one we're announcing for the first time right here!
Nate Sheets for Texas Agriculture Commissioner
Mayes Middleton for Texas Attorney General
Don Huffines for Texas Comptroller
Dawn Buckingham for Texas Land Commissioner
Thomas Smith for Criminal Court of Appeals Pl 3
Surprised by some of our decisions? That's ok! We have interviewed, studied, researched, and discussed each one thoroughly, and we feel confident in them. However, you don't have to agree. Texas is so blessed to have some great candidates running. It's nice for once to be able to choose from the best of the best as opposed to the lesser of all evils, isn't it? If you want to read some of our explanations on these choices, check out this article.
Progress on our request for help! For 3 weeks (now 4) I've included in this newsletter that we are trying to add 40newmonthlydonors before the end of the year. I don't get to see reports every day, but this week I learned that we are 2/3 of the way to our goal! Yay! You guys are awesome. We're getting so close. Please jump in if you haven't already. 1000s of Texans utilize our voting recommendations, training opportunities, speakers, meetings, and social events. We do good things that must continue! Can you chip in $35/month? (That's the average, but we'll take anything!).
Remember... everyone who sets up a recurring donation of at least $25/month gets a free t-shirt!
This week at a glance... WHEW! Last week was crazy busy - this week we rest, give thanks with our families, and enjoy the time that we have this holiday season with friends and other True Texans.
Year of the Patriot Conference - Houston and DFW. It's an election year, plus America's 250th birthday, plus it's just great to be a Texan, so there's lots to celebrate during our Year of the Patriot conferences. We'll have our first one on Jan 24 in Houston, and then in late summer we'll have another one in the DFW area. Both will be unique though, so you'll want to attend eachtime! Get it on your radar. More details soon.
