Today is International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day, a day we come together to remember those we’ve lost and to offer support for those who carry their memory forward. We know this day can bring a mix of emotions — grief, love, reverence — and that having a safe space to share and honor these feelings is so important.

We’re proud to share a special piece from Lisa Sugarman (she/her), one of our dedicated Trevor crisis counselors, three-time survivor of suicide loss, and mental health advocate.

Lisa offers a glimpse into the life of a survivor of suicide loss, speaking from her own experiences on ways we can show support and love for this community. Lisa reflects on her own journey and states, “Survivors of suicide loss need support that’s consistent, compassionate, and human."

Read on to find compassionate ways to support survivors of suicide loss and lend a hand, heart, or simply an ear to those impacted today.
