John,
The GOP’s government shutdown may be over, but the healthcare system is still in crisis. Healthcare costs are skyrocketing, and Republicans have refused to do a damn thing about it.
John, I’m hearing from people all over California that health care is too expensive. People with pre-existing conditions or people whose premiums are going to go up $1,000 a month and will likely have to drop their coverage.
We need to come together to find a real solution to this crisis.
But if you were to ask the president or Senate Republicans, they seem just fine with the way things are. That’s why their government funding bill didn’t include any provisions to drive down healthcare costs. Quite the opposite.
Here’s a simple truth Trump and Republicans don’t want you to know:
They think it’s a good thing fewer people will have health care. They think if you can't afford it — no matter how hard you work and how many jobs you hold down — you don’t deserve health care. And they simply don’t care about you.
And Trump? Trump is too busy golfing and redecorating to pay any mind to the very real, very serious, very costly crisis on our country’s doorstep.
We need more than “concepts of a plan,” as the president once so eloquently stated.
And the dam might be breaking soon. A few House Republicans have come forward saying they want to build upon the Affordable Care Act. And after their embarrassing losses at the ballot box earlier this month, Republicans might finally recognize that they have a responsibility to govern.
But John, that’s not going to happen until the president gets off the golf course, gets out of his ballroom planning meetings, sits down, and negotiates.
