Dear John,
Donald Trump has been on an authoritarian rampage since the moment he was sworn in, and today I want to share an urgent warning about what may be his most dangerous power grab yet.
It’s called NSPM-7.
NSPM-7 is a presidential memorandum that defines a nearly unlimited range of progressive political views as indicators of “domestic terrorism,” and then directs the FBI and other federal law enforcement agencies to investigate any organization that may have committed such thought crimes.
This is a direct assault on our most fundamental rights, and we’re mobilizing our supporters to contact Congress and demand action to stop NSPM-7.
In addition, we must be prepared for the possibility that our organization could be directly targeted under NSPM-7 — and the potentially significant legal expenses that could follow.
That’s why I’m asking you today to make a monthly donation to help educate the public, stop NSPM-7, and ensure we have the resources to defend ourselves no matter what Trump throws at us.
Under NSPM-7, you could be prosecuted for terrorism if you espouse such views as “anti-capitalism,” “extremism on migration, race, and gender,” and opposition to “traditional American views on family, religion, and morality.”
Now you might be wondering, what exactly do those terms mean? If you support unions or raising the minimum wage, does that make you “anti-capitalist”? If you think ICE should stop tear-gassing kids, does that make you an “extremist on migration”?
Under this president, you better believe it.
Yet despite the truly draconian nature of NSPM-7, the corporate media is almost completely ignoring it. So Inequality Media Civic Action is sounding the alarm and urging Congress to take action now to defend our First Amendment rights.
To help support this effort, I’m asking you to make a monthly donation to Inequality Media Civic Action to fund our campaign against NSPM-7, educate the public, and also to ensure we have the resources to fight back in court if we are ever targeted under NSPM-7.
Thank you,
Robert Reich
