My name is Raja Krishnamoorthi. The attacks on immigrants across the country are despicable. As an immigrant and the father of first-generation brown children, I refuse to stay silent. I’m doing everything in my power to protect the families and children living in fear that their parents will be ripped from their homes, schools, jobs, and communities by ICE. From standing up to Kristi Noem in the House Oversight Committee to getting kicked out of ICE detention centers for doing my job, I’ve led the fight against Trump’s authoritarian agenda. Democrats need someone willing to fight in the Senate now more than ever. But that’s made me a top target for Republican attacks.
John, this is personal to me. My parents immigrated to the U.S. from India when I was a baby to give us a better life — and they did. I went from living in Public Housing and depending on SNAP to eat — to a Law School graduate, U.S. Congressman, and candidate for Senate. The Trump administration’s cruel, xenophobic policies mean that so many immigrant kids like me are scared right now. So yes — I’m angry. And I’m worried. But if I’ve learned anything in my life as an immigrant in this country, it’s that success comes from translating anger and worry into action. That’s why I’m running for Senate: to fight with everything I have against Trump and his MAGA maniacs.
