Missouri Right to Life has worked diligently these past 46 years to protect unborn children from abortion and more recently unethical research. We have worked to protect the elderly and those who are disabled from being starved and dehydrated to death or from the direct threat of assisted suicide. We have worked diligently through legislative action and political activity and also through education and public activation. And now, we are faced with an attempt to “help” people through an expansion of Medicaid services. We cannot and should not turn a blind eye to the cost of such a proposed expansion. The cost will be the lives of more unborn children who are lost through increased abortion procedures and additional access to the abortifacient “morning after pill”. There will also be additional cost. This cost will last a lifetime and will be devastating to women and families who, in their time of need or crisis, turned to the abortion industry to “solve their problems." Planned Parenthood and NARAL are supporting Amendment 2 for a reason. And that reason is that they will benefit with more funding to take the lives of unborn children with no care for the pregnant mom and what she will encounter in her future, both physically and emotionally. The Missouri Supreme Court has just recently ruled that the State cannot prevent Medicaid funding from going to Planned Parenthood.
