** Checking in with Matt Cartwright

It was a top priority of mine as a congressman to restore Amtrak service to our area. I’m happy to report that these funds, which we announced at the end of last year, are coming in on schedule. The Federal Railroad Administration suffered substantial personnel cuts this year under “DOGE,” but is continuing its work on this project. Our area should not take a backseat to other regions that do have Amtrak service.

Earlier this month, I was humbled to be listed among the honorees receiving the Robert W. Munley Award from Lackawanna Pro Bono, which provides free legal services. Congratulations also to Hon. Chester Harhut, retired Common Pleas Court Judge, and Dr. Katie Pittelli, CEO of Johnson College. We raised over $100,000 at that event, money that will go toward LPB support staff and administrative expenses.

I am very grateful to the generous donors, as these funds help the needy and relieve our court system of the extra burden of handling unrepresented people. LPB showcases the generosity of our local legal community, who all pitch in, working for free. I was thrilled to help LPB and so honored to receive an award named for my late father-in-law, the man who taught me how to be a lawyer.
