The Department of Commerce, along with the Departments of State, the Treasury, and Homeland Security, are issuing a business advisory to highlight risks and considerations for businesses with supply chain exposure to entities engaged in forced labor and other human rights abuses in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region in the Peoples Republic of China (PRC). Secretary Ross Traveled to Erie, Pennsylvania & Youngstown, Ohio [ [link removed] ]

On July 1, Secretary Ross traveled to Erie, Pennsylvania & Youngstown, Ohio to participate in events for the U.S. Mexico Canada agreement implementation, marking the beginning of a historic new chapter for North American trade with benefits for PA, OH & American workers, manufacturers, and businesses.



U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $4.9 Million to Make Disaster Resilient Infrastructure Improvements in Oklahoma Foreign Trade and Opportunity Zone [ [link removed] ]

Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced that the Departments Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $4.9 million grant to the Muskogee City-County Port Authority of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, to make critical infrastructure improvements needed to protect businesses from future floods. The EDA grant, to be located in a Tax Cuts and Jobs Act Opportunity Zone, will be matched with $1.65 million in local funds.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administrations National Broadband Availability Map (NBAM) reached a 20 state milestone with the addition of Wyoming and Washington State.The NBAM is a geographic information system platform which allows for the visualization and analysis of federal, state, and commercially available data sets.

Cue the ice cubes: NOAA forecasters are predicting the current heat wave will continue to engulf parts of the Desert Southwest, the entire Southeast to the East Coast, and the Central and Southern Plains over the next seven days and likely longer. As of this morning (July 10), about 70 million people are under an excessive heat watch or warning, or heat advisory and that number is expected to increase each day through July 17.

U.S. Seafood Trade Task Force Seeks Input from Industry and the Public [ [link removed] ]

The Interagency U.S. Seafood Trade Task Force wants to hear from you. Recently, the Federal Register published a notice inviting the U.S. seafood and fishing industry to submit comments and suggestions for the newly-established task force, which will be co-chaired by the Office of the United States Trade Representative and the U.S. Department of Commerce. The task force stems from the Presidential Executive Order signed May 7, 2020, on Promoting American Seafood Competitiveness and Economic Growth.



2020 Census Results Inform Funding for Hospitals and Health Care [ [link removed] ]

Hospitals, health care clinics, and health care programs such as Medicaid, the need-based health insurance program for low-income people, and Medicare for people over age 65 are among the many public health care services that use population statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau. Results from the 2020 Census [ [link removed] ] underway now will help federal, state, local and tribal officials plan funding for health care services for the next decade.

*US Secretary of Commerce visits Youngstown business, bringing grant to help expand PPE production [ [link removed] ]*

Ross started his afternoon touring the Youngstown Business Incubator renovation of the old Vindicator building downtown. He also met briefly with Zac DiVencenzo, with the Juggerbot 3D printing company Ross then walked next door to America Makes, where he announced the grant from the Department of Commerce. This funding will help expand production capacity from 240,000 to 400,000 units of PPE per week using additive and digital manufacturing technology, he said.



*U.S. Sec. of Commerce delivers $6.4M in grants to Valley [ [link removed] ]*

The Mahoning Valley will receive $6.4 million in small business assistance, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced at a press conference Wednesday. Ross visited America Makes and made the announcement after touring the facility. Of the amount, $1.4 million from the Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology will go to America Makes. The grant will fund the increased production of personal protective equipment.



*SpaceX launches Air Forces newest GPS satellite [ [link removed] ]*

SpaceX launched the militarys newest, most accurate GPS satellite Tuesday after a two-month delay due to the pandemic. A Falcon 9 rocket blasted off from Floridas Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, carrying the GPS satellite to orbit. The brand new first-stage booster landed on an ocean platform several minutes later, to be recycled for future use.
