“Punishable by DEATH!”

That was Donald Trump’s response to me and my fellow military (and intel) veterans in Congress — all because he didn’t want to hear a basic lesson:

When you serve our country, your oath to the Constitution comes above all.

And he especially didn’t want to hear it from a guy like me who answered the call to serve our nation in uniform — something Donald Trump used his daddy’s wealth and power to avoid during the Vietnam war.

John, the basic idea that we would never expect our troops to follow illegal orders is not a controversial one. It’s one that I learned as a plebe in the Naval Academy. It’s one that I trained my sailors and soldiers with.

The fact that this President’s (the Commander in Chief’s) response to that is to call for our death, our hanging, and our arrest, tells me everything I need to know about his respect for our laws.

John, now is the moment for every patriot to reject this call for political violence — and proudly stand up in defense of our Constitution.
