This is how we change the conversation about transit.

“#TransitIsEssential because without it I can’t get to work, to the grocery store or places I have to go to or need to be.” -Nehemiah, former Green for All Youth Ambassador

John,

We all have a story to tell. Across cultures and time, we have told stories to inspire, drive action, and uplift the voices of those on the margins. Now, we’re calling on you to share yours.

Since Coronavirus hit the U.S., more than 160 transit workers have died. Ridership has plummeted along with transit agency funding. Communities of color are disproportionately impacted by drastic service cuts and a severe lack of health and safety protections.

Now, transit agencies and lawmakers are forced to make decisions about the future of our transit system that could ultimately hurt the millions of people who rely on public transit. That’s why we’re asking you to join transit workers, riders, and supporters across the country to grow a national conversation about the importance of public transit. Your #TransitIsEssential story is critical to shaping these decisions and ensuring we create a system better than before.

Joining our #TransitIsEssential movement is easy. Follow the steps below to contribute your story:

  1. Download & print or create your own #TransitIsEssential sign
  2. Write why public transit is essential to you
  3. Post a selfie with your sign to Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter with the hashtag #TransitIsEssential and tag Green For All

If you’re in need of inspiration and ideas, listen to stories from directly impacted transit riders and workers here.

Through our collective stories, we’ll build momentum to generate much-needed policy change. We’ll fight to increase funding to protect transit riders and workers  from COVID-19. And we’ll address the historic and systemic racial and economic inequities in our public transit system to build a better, cleaner transportation future for all.

We can’t wait to see what you share!

-The Dream Corps Green For All Team

P.S. There’s still time to RSVP for our powerful Transit Equity Townhall on Mobility, Race, and the Economy happening this Thursday, July 16 at 11 am PT/2 pm ET. You won’t want to miss this!
