John,

We have A LOT to celebrate this week, fam.

Last night, Mike Siegel declared victory in Texas—thanks to us. Sunrise volunteers pushed hard for this campaign, knocking on doors earlier this year, writing postcards, and grinding down their call lists day after day. In the last week, phonebankers pulled off an incredible push, making 100,000 dials to voters in Texas. Mike and his campaign are over the moon: “Sunrise showed up like no other group I’ve ever seen in politics.”

This race was won by just a few percent—an incredibly close margin that makes it obvious our people power is what sealed the deal for Mike’s campaign. As we move forward to the next primaries—then the general in November—we need to keep this momentum alive.

Can you contribute to support Sunrise's work across the nation? Paying for our phone bank tech, travel and food costs for our doorknockers, and all the little logistics in between adds up. We don’t want to leave hubs fending for themselves when they need support the most. A monthly gift gives us the security to make bigger plans further in advance. [[link removed]]

If the victory in Texas wasn’t enough, let’s talk about the major win regarding Biden’s climate plan.

Yesterday, Biden rolled out the second part of his four-part “Build Back Better” plan. It’s a green infrastructure and environmental justice plan to “tackle the climate crisis while digging us out of the current economic crisis.” In short, it’s a major upgrade to his climate plan, which is much more in line with the Green New Deal than what we expected just a few months ago.

I am in awe of how much we’ve transformed the conversation. From this new plan, Biden makes it clear he and his team understand our most important argument in this moment: that action on climate is the major economic opportunity the next President and Congress can usher in, and that action must be ambitious, equitable, and pro-worker.

Highlights of new commitments include:

*
100%
clean
electricity
by
2035
*
At
least
$2
trillion
in
the
first
4
years
on
clean
energy
investments
*
40%
of
investments
to
frontline
communities
*
A
new
division
of
climate
and
environmental
justice
within
the
Department
of
Justice
*
A
Climate
Corps
to
give
people,
especially
young
people,
jobs
building
the
future
*
Strong
labor
standards
*
Historic
investments
in
sustainable
public
housing,
public
transit,
and
electric
vehicles
*
And
a
lot
more!

Did you see that timeline? 2035. That’s 15 years—not the 30 years he was touting before. For the first time Biden is promising immediate action—on day 1, in his first 100 days, in his first term, in the next decade—not just some ambiguous, far off goal.

This kind of commitment would have been unimaginable from Biden just a few months ago. The plans aren’t perfect, but this shift is a major victory for our movement and a display of our power. We can take a moment to celebrate that.

Then we have to push more. Can you contribute so the movement can keep the pressure up and rack up even more wins in the coming months? [[link removed]]

The next set of primary races is coming up fast and there’s still a lot more work to be done to establish a Green New Deal as the solution to secure clean air and water and good jobs for everyone.

These victories make it clear: we are a force to be reckoned with.
