John,
As a young legislator starting out knocking on doors nearly 25 years ago, I heard from young families and workers unable to find housing they could afford in their hometowns, where they wanted to live, work and raise a family. Now, years later with home sales prices doubling since the pandemic, the housing crisis has spread state-wide, and families, workers and seniors are struggling to find housing they can afford.
We spent the last several months traveling on a housing tour across Maine's communities to hear more about what's working and what's not. Everywhere we went we heard from community members, renters, leaders, and developers, and there was agreement that housing issues are urgent and require bold and practical solutions.
Inspired by those conversations, I’m proud to be the first candidate in this race to share *any* policy plan, our comprehensive Housing Affordability Plan. From ending veteran homelessness to supporting the workers who will build the housing we need, this plan is about getting things done.
As governor, I plan to:
🏠 Invest $100 Million a Year in Housing
🏠 Take on Private Equity and Corporate Greed
🏠 Accelerate Permit Approvals, Cut Red Tape, and Reduce Barriers to New Housing
🏠 Grow the Workforce and Industries that Build Our Homes
🏠 Reduce Evictions and Address Rising Homelessness in Maine

But, this is a bold plan that we can only make happen if we win this race. Will you consider a contribution to support my campaign and donate today?
Thanks for being part of our team,
Hannah Pingree
