John, this is Connie Chan.

Today, I’m proud to share something that means a great deal to me: I’m running for Congress in California’s 11th District -- the place that raised me.

If that’s all you need to hear, I’m asking you to split $5 or whatever you can between me and Democratic Values to become a Day One supporter of this people-powered campaign.

But if you have a moment, I’d like to share why I’m stepping forward -- and why this race matters so much.

I came to San Francisco as a first-generation immigrant.
My mom, brother and I lived in a one-bedroom apartment in Chinatown, and from a young age I translated for neighbors who were shut out of the system.

I saw doors slammed on families like mine. So I did what I could to hold them open. That’s what led me into public service -- showing up, listening, and standing with people who’ve been counted out.

That’s how I’ve led as Supervisor.

It’s how I helped strengthen tenant protections, build real affordable housing, raise wages for city workers, waive start-up fees for thousands of small businesses, and expand access to City College for working families.

And it’s why I’m running now – for people getting priced out of their own city, for families who worry that getting sick means going into debt, and for immigrant communities tired of Washington cutting health care and sending ICE into our neighborhoods.

San Francisco has the opportunity to decide who will continue the legacy set by Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi.

Our future should be rooted in families like the ones I grew up with in Chinatown -- the people who open San Francisco’s doors every morning, build our homes, care for our seniors, and keep this city moving.
