It’s hard to believe what happened this week.
Donald Trump publicly called for the arrest and execution of his political opponents. Democratic members of Congress, elected by their constituents, received death threats from the sitting President of the United States.
It’s fair to say we’ve never seen anything like it here at home, maybe ever.
But we have seen this before. We saw it in the Soviet Union, in Nazi Germany, and under Mao Zedong. We saw it while we served in Iraq and Afghanistan where Saddam Hussein and the Taliban tortured and killed thousands of their opponents.
The things we signed up to fight against over there are now what Trump is threatening to do here, and that is why the work we are doing is more important than ever. Just three weeks ago, this country showed Trump and the GOP what they thought about their leadership. Their days in power are numbered.
But the leaders we elect in 2026 and 2028 have to be strong enough to bring our country back from the brink and rebuild everything Trump has destroyed.
