Trump praises NYC Mayor-elect Mamdani after White House meeting, shrugs off being called "fascist"
Fox News was hyping up New York's new Democratic mayor Zohran Mamdani's first meeting with Donald Trump as a "SHOWDOWN WITH SOCIALISM," but were left eating their words as Trump...loved him? In a bizarre and utterly hilarious twist, Trump was absolutely smitten with Mamdani. In one astonishing exchange, Mamdani was asked if he still thought Trump was a "fascist" and Trump jumped in to say "That’s ok. You can just say yes. That’s easier. It’s easier than explaining," and Mamdani nodded somberly and said "Yes." Trump would then go on to help defend Mamdani from pointed questions from conservative media, telling them that he would feel safe living in his New York City, that he didn't think he was a jihadist, and that he hopes to meet with him again. This was always a possible outcome, given Trump's infamous reverence for celebrities, winners, and people who are on TV a lot, but one could hardly have hoped for this level of genuine adulation. Those screams you hear in the distance are the furious GOP strategists who just had to tear up two years worth of planned messaging about the evil socialist Mamdani and how he was the face of the Democratic Party. It appears that Trump really, really likes that face!

Trump's cruelty leaves millions in Thanksgiving bind
The shutdown may finally be over, but the financial pain that so many American families felt from going for weeks without food stamps or paychecks is still very real. Still more American families are reeling from sky-high prices from Trump’s tariffs or have lost their jobs as Corporate America fires workers by the tens of thousands. That's why the No Kid Hungry nonprofit is organizing a Friendsgiving fundraising drive to get the community involved and help make sure people get the food they need. Will you step up and help feed American kids in need?
86 Democrats join with Republicans in resolution to condemn "the horrors of socialism"
While Democratic Socialist Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani was being gushed over at the White House, Democratic House Leader Hakeem Jeffries and 85 of his fellow centrists joined with the GOP in a resolution to condemn the "horrors" of socialism in an act of political cowardice that signaled loyalty to their corporate donors. Recall that things Republicans consider to be "socialism" include Obamacare, Medicaid, the highway system, student loan forgiveness, farm subsidies, free lunches for kids, climate change migitation efforts, public education, affordable housing, and literally anything that Democrats have ever done to help regular Americans. This resolution was little more than Republican attack ad bait that is only viable when Democrats jump at the sight of their own shadow and refuse to stand up and speak the truth. Worth noting that most Democrats did the sensible thing, but far too many continue to cower to corporate donors and poll tested nonsense. We’ve got some work to do, folks.
Zelenskyy says Ukraine has impossible choice as Trump pushes plan to end war
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Ukraine faces one of the most difficult moments in its history, after Donald Trump demanded Kyiv accept a US-backed “peace plan” that would force it to give up territory to Russia and make other painful concessions. In a sombre 10-minute speech outside his presidential palace, Zelenskyy said his country had an impossible choice. It could keep its national dignity or risk losing a major partner in the shape of a US administration apparently determined to end the conflict on Moscow’s brutal terms. “Now the pressure on Ukraine is one of the heaviest,” he said. Its options included agreeing to Trump’s 28-point proposal or “an extremely difficult winter,” which has already seen Russia destroy much of the country’s energy infrastructure, with millions of people left without heating and in the dark. Agreeing to the US-Russian plan could leave Ukraine “without freedom, dignity and justice”, he said. It would also mean believing “someone who has already attacked us twice”, he said, adding that he would never sacrifice Ukraine’s interests or go against its constitution. “We did not betray Ukraine then [in 2022], and we will not do so now,” he declared. Speaking on Fox radio, Trump said he thought Thursday was an “appropriate time” for Zelenskyy to sign the deal, and said he believed Ukraine could not prevent Russia’s army from taking the Donbas territories by force. The US president is pursuing an “aggressive timeline” to end the conflict, US officials indicated, and intends to heap unprecedented pressure on Kyiv. Trump is also threatening to cut vital intelligence sharing and weapons supplies for Ukraine if it fails to agree, reports suggest.
Ohio officer acquitted of murdering pregnant woman suspected of shoplifting
An Ohio policeman has been acquitted of murdering a pregnant woman he fatally shot in a supermarket car park. Connor Grubb opened fire at Ta'Kiya Young as he and another officer told her to get out of a vehicle on suspicion of shoplifting alcohol on 24 August 2023. Bodycam video shows her car rolling slowly towards Mr Grubb outside the Kroger store in a suburb of Columbus. In footage, she could be heard asking: "Are you going to shoot me?" The jury unanimously found him not guilty of two counts of murder, two charges of felonious assault, and two counts involuntary manslaughter. Ms Young, 21, was around 25 weeks pregnant. Her unborn daughter also died. Mr Grubb declined to testify at the trial, which featured 17 witnesses, the Columbus Dispatch reported. Sean Walton, a lawyer representing the Young family, called the verdict "an American tragedy", the Associated Press reported.
