John,
What could the 2026 midterm map look like if Donald Trump gets his way?
Let’s recap what’s happened so far:
-The Texas GOP forced through a mid-decade gerrymander that they believe could pick up as many as five seats.
-North Carolina pushed through an even more gerrymandered map than it already had, hoping to gain one extra seat for Republicans.
-Missouri rushed through a redraw that could allow the GOP to steal one more seat.
Meanwhile:
-California voters overwhelmingly approved a map that could help level the playing field following Texas’s gerrymander, which might flip as many as five seats for Democrats.
-A Utah court struck down a GOP-gerrymandered map and approved a new one that could give Democrats a competitive chance at picking up one seat.
This is all theoretical, and the voters still get to weigh in next year, but right now, this redistricting crisis hasn’t led to the outcome the White House wants. That’s why states like Florida are preparing to try to steal more seats for Donald Trump ahead of the 2026 midterms. Just last week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis tweeted “Stay tuned…” in response to reports about the Florida legislature pushing through a mid-decade map redraw.
And many states are watching the Supreme Court closely, hoping they’ll strike down a part of the Voting Rights Act that could give several states a chance to pass racial gerrymanders.
Americans have been rising up against these craven power grabs. Our movement is fighting back against Trump’s bullying and bribing by organizing, advocating, and voting to preserve our democracy. But we know that our opponents are doubling down — and so we can’t afford to let up.

Amid the GOP’s cynical power grabs, something else is happening. Voters can see right through their attempts to hoard power.
Their stranglehold in Indiana is starting to crack as Indiana voters rise up to reject map meddling. Donald Trump even threatened to endorse the opponents of any Republican lawmakers who refuse to go along with his redistricting schemes.
And in the Show Me State, where voters overwhelmingly oppose the mid-decade power grab, Missouri voters may have the final say on their gerrymandered congressional map at the ballot box through referendum. Weeks ahead of their deadline, more than 150,000 people signed the petition to send the new map to a vote where it could be vetoed by the people.
We have to be laser-focused on ensuring that these Republican gerrymandering attempts badly backfire. We have to be ready for whatever they are planning to throw at us next. And with your support, the NDRC won’t let up.
