Event 7/30: The Future of Muni with Jeff Tumlin

Meet our Members!

Membership Month

We depend on you -- our members – for everything we do. From pushing SFMTA to add transit-only lanes, to having conversations district by district about transit rider needs across the city, to advocating at the federal level for transit funding, your donations and membership keep us going and power our advocacy. We're grateful for you every day.

While we can't celebrate Membership Month with you in person, we are hosting two webinars on the future of transit you wont want to miss: a conversation with SFMTA Director Jeff Tumlin and a panel discussion with community leaders across the city. Both events are part of San Francisco Transit Riders' mission to educate and empower riders across the city. See you there!

Event: The Future of Muni with Director Jeff Tumlin

2020 has been a roller-coaster year for public transit. On July 30th, join us for a conversation with SFMTA Director Jeff Tumlin. We’ll dive deep into what the first few weeks of the shelter-in-place were like for the head of the SFMTA, the decision-making process that led to the changes to the Muni map, how that map is now expanding, and what we’re looking at for the future - hard reality, but also hope.

Meet our Members!

Felix Castillo is an SFTR member and Muni Operator. He led the SFTR Masks for Muni initiative which distributed more than 1,000 masks to Muni operators and riders during the early days of the pandemic when many operators felt they needed more masks.
Felix is a member of SF Transit Riders because “what’s good for the operator is good for the rider. The less lines and service we have out there, the more crowded our buses are going to be. That makes it more dangerous for riders and operators.”

Jane Natoli is an SFTR member, and a long-time advocate for transit in the Richmond and across the city. Rider-focused advocacy matters to her because “we aren’t serving statistics – we’re serving individuals. I know the real importance of making sure these are human stories. It’s important to reflect the diversity of experience and needs of the people using public transit.” Jane has been nominated to the SFMTA board by Mayor Breed. If confirmed, she looks forward to securing stable funding for public transit and helping SFMTA do better on safe streets. “Safe streets means a lot of different things to different people – it’s not just protected bike lanes. It’s also ‘do you feel like the bus is for you?’”

Claire Teresko is an SFTR Community Organizer doing outreach to residents and community groups in District 7. They care about advocating for transit riders because “good transit allows everyone mobility, regardless of ability, age, wealth, or where someone lives. I think everyone should have the opportunity and ability to move around and access jobs, housing, groceries, and recreation in a way that's fast, reliable and convenient.”
