Email from Rep. Salazar Reporting from Washington, D.C. FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 119, Issue #30 Dear Friends / Estimados Amigos, With the government reopened, Congress is back to work, and this week we delivered meaningful results for District 27. The House passed my resolution condemning the horrors of socialism, and the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee examined the growing threat of a socialist takeover in Honduras to protect an important U.S. ally. We also advanced a resolution I proudly co-sponsored to support traveling mothers and families, while the Dignity Act continues earning strong bipartisan and civil-society endorsements. My priorities remain clear: real immigration reform, lowering costs, and standing up to communism at home and abroad. As federal agencies resume operations, my offices are open and ready to assist you and your family. Sincerely / Atentamente, María E. Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) How am I doing as your congresswoman? THE HOUSE PASSES MY RESOLUTION DENOUNCING THE HORRORS OF SOCIALISM Today, the House of Representatives passed my resolution reaffirming that socialist policies are fundamentally incompatible with America’s founding principles and its way of life. The resolution states the facts about life under socialist regimes. In the Soviet Union, China, Cambodia, North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela, wherever socialism has taken root, the results have been the same: famine, repression, economic ruin, and the loss of human life and freedom. With support for socialism rising in the United States and around the world, this resolution is more important than ever. You can read more about the resolution here. You can watch my remarks here. THE DIGNITY ACT GAINS MOMENTUM AND SECURES NEW NATIONAL ENDORSEMENTS Support for the DIGNITY ACT is surging nationwide as a broad coalition of employers, faith leaders, community organizations, and bipartisan lawmakers continues to join its ranks. More than 50 national organizations now support the legislation, marking one of the strongest and most unified endorsements for any immigration reform proposal in decades. The growing support comes as the first national poll on the DIGNITY Act shows that 51 percent of Americans support the plan, while only 33 percent oppose it, according to McLaughlin & Associates. The survey found backing across all regions and political affiliations, with voters expressing strong interest in a solution that secures the border, protects American workers, and provides a responsible process for long-term immigrant workers. The results confirm that the Dignity Act aligns with what most Americans want from immigration reform: order, accountability, and stability. You can read more about the DIGNITY ACT here. DEMOCRACY IN PERIL: THE FIGHT FOR FREE ELECTIONS IN HONDURAS This week, I led the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere in a public hearing exposing serious threats to Honduras’s democracy, followed by a press conference warning that the country’s upcoming elections are at risk without strong safeguards. Honduras must hold free, fair, and transparent elections. Voters are at a crossroads; electing a Communist would only bring greater misery to the Honduran people. I will not stay silent as Honduras approaches a critical vote under mounting pressure from anti-democratic forces. You can read more here. I PASSED LEGISLATION TO SUPPORT PARENTS TRAVELING WITH BREAST MILK AND BABY FOOD. This week, I helped pass the Bottles and Breastfeeding Equipment Screening (BABES) Enhancement Act, which I proudly co-led. The bill is now headed to the President’s desk to become law and will make it easier for parents to safely travel with breast milk and baby food. For too long, parents, especially breastfeeding mothers, have faced inconsistent and often painful experiences at TSA checkpoints due to unclear guidelines. That is unacceptable. No government policy should ever stand between a parent and their child’s essential nutrition while traveling. You can read more here. IN THE MEDIA: SPEAKING UP FOR SOUTH FLORIDA This week, I joined CNN, Fox & Friends, and CBS to discuss my Resolution Denouncing Socialism, the ongoing fight for freedom in Cuba and Venezuela, and other key issues impacting District 27. I’ll keep speaking up for South Florida families and defending our values, faith, freedom, and opportunity on every platform where our voice can make a difference. You can watch my interview with Fox and Friends here. APPLICATION ALERT: SPRING INTERNSHIPS SPRING INTERNSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN! Interested in public service? Need college credit?
