John,
Senators Mark Kelly and Elissa Slotkin and Representatives Jason Crow, Chris Deluzio, Maggie Goodlander, and Chrissy Houlahan sent servicemembers a crucial reminder that they should disobey illegal orders.[1]
48 hours later, Trump accused them of sedition and called for their arrest and execution.
It’s an unprecedented incitement of violence against political opponents, who were targeted simply for encouraging servicemembers to uphold the law and their oath to the Constitution.
If you’re outraged, you’re not alone -- and that’s why we’re speaking, with one unified voice to REJECT Trump’s violent authoritarianism. That starts with letting these six lawmakers know that we, the people, have their backs, that we are with them in supporting servicemembers to refuse orders that violate their oath to the Constitution, and that we need them to keep speaking out.
Will you sign the petition and send a message to these six members of Congress letting them know you have their backs in this fight?
Trump’s disturbing and extreme reaction to six members of Congress, including five veterans and one former national security official, discussing the need for servicemembers to refuse unlawful orders is sadly no surprise.
This president has made clear that he considers dissent or any critique of him or his policies a national security threat.
But we know the truth: Whether it’s a series of illegal, unauthorized deadly bombings in the Caribbean, violent militarized raids by masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection agents, or deploying armed soldiers into our cities, it’s Trump’s actions that threaten our shared safety.
Now is not the time to back down. Because whether it’s millions of people in the streets marching to say ‘NO KINGS’, rulings that defend our rights in defiance of this administration’s violent policies, or six members of Congress bravely showing up to support servicemembers, we’ve got to keep going. Today, gratitude can help us build the muscle to do just that.
Join us to thank Sens. Kelly and Slotkin, along with Reps. Crow, Deluzio, Goodlander, and Houlahan now, and urge them to keep resisting Trump’s authoritarianism.
