Email from Rep Feenstra In this week's roundup: Delivering stronger benefits for our veterans and lowering fertilizer costs for our farmers.     Dear Friend, In this week's roundup: Delivering stronger benefits for our veterans and lowering fertilizer costs for our farmers. That and more – remember to follow my Facebook page by clicking here and my Twitter page by clicking here to stay up-to-date throughout the week! DELIVERING STRONGER BENEFITS FOR OUR VETERANS Earlier this week, with my strong support, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed the Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act. Our veterans are American heroes who have made incredible sacrifices to defend our families and communities. They fought to protect our freedoms, defend our flag, and ensure that our nation remains free — yet they never seek recognition or praise. We must ensure that our veterans receive the benefits they have earned and deserve. It’s why I voted to make benefits stronger for our veterans by keeping cost-of-living adjustments in line with Social Security. As a proud Iowan and proud American, I will always support our veterans who have kept our nation the greatest on Earth. MEETING WITH THE CLEAN FUELS ALLIANCE I enjoyed meeting with the Clean Fuels Alliance and talking about important priorities for Iowa biofuels, including strong RVO levels and robust support for domestic energy production. Homegrown Iowa biofuels lower gas prices, support farmers, and reduce our dependence on foreign energy. HELPING IOWA STUDENTS UNDERSTAND THE FULL COST OF STUDENT LOANS As a father of four, ensuring that our kids can pursue educational opportunities and build a future career is important to me. Whether it’s community college or a four-year university, students need to fully understand the cost of taking out student loans, especially the amount of their interest payments. But currently, there is no requirement to explain how much the full cost of a loan would be when considering interest. That’s why I introduced legislation to provide students with an estimate of how much they would pay in interest over the term of their loan. This fix will help keep students out of mountains of unsustainable debt while ensuring that the next generation can chase their dreams and pursue fulfilling educational opportunities. CATCHING UP WITH COUNTY SUPERVISORS FROM IOWA It was great to talk to my friend and Sioux County Supervisor Carl Vande Weerd as well as supervisors from Clay, Crawford, and Mills counties who are part of the Rural Action Caucus. From supporting agriculture to investing in our main streets, I’ll always stand up for rural Iowa! WORKING TO LOWER THE COST OF FERTILIZER FOR IOWA FARMERS As I'm traveling across the 4th District, Iowa farmers continue to tell me that the biggest barrier to farm profitability is high input costs. Representing one of the largest agricultural districts in the country, commonsense ways that we can help lower the prices of input costs like fertilizer is critical so that that our farmers can keep feeding and fueling our country and the world. It’s why I’m glad to help introduce legislation with Rep. Ashley Hinson that will deliver more transparency into the factors driving up the cost of fertilizer, and ultimately, help reduce financial pressures for farmers. By lowering costs for our producers, we can keep Iowa farmland in the hands of Iowa farmers and help the next generation carry on our proud agricultural traditions. DELIVERING CRITICAL RESOURCES FOR IOWA'S RURAL HOSPITALS AND RURAL HEALTHCARE Earlier this year, President Trump and Republicans passed the largest investment in rural healthcare in U.S. history. We delivered $50 billion for rural hospitals and rural health, ensuring that our families, veterans, and seniors can get the high-quality care they need when they need it. The Rural Health Transformation Program will support Iowa’s Healthy Hometowns initiative to invest in rapid emergency response, help recruit and retain physicians, prevent and treat cancer, and support patients. I’m glad to join my colleagues in supporting Iowa’s application for these funds, and I’ll keep working to make high-quality healthcare more affordable and more accessible for all Iowans. ONE LAST THING: STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE HERE! It's that time of the year! State football championship games are here, and I know many families are already in Des Moines or are making the trip over. Wishing every team and fan a safe and fun time! Iowa high school football: State championship game schedule, scores and highlights The 2025 Iowa high school football season will finish this week with championship games in each of Iowa's seven classes.
