We’re the closest we’ve ever been to a real global plan to phase out coal, oil, and gas
Hi John,
I’m writing to you from inside COP30, where I’ve spent the last days reviewing draft texts and meeting with ministers.
For the first time in my years at these negotiations, we’re this close to a real global plan to phase out coal, oil, and gas. More than 80 countries are pushing for a roadmap with deadlines, targets, and practical steps – not just vague promises.
But this progress is under threat – and our movement needs your voice now. We have only a few hours left to act before these vital talks end.
You can help us push leaders to do better by joining the pressure on social media. Here’s how:
1️⃣ Go to the COP30 Presidency’s post on Facebook, Bluesky or Instagram.
2️⃣ Leave a comment under it that says something like one of the following – you can copy one of those, but it’s even better if you write your own!
- The world is watching. Show leadership, add the fossil fuel phase out roadmap to the #COP30 agreement. Listen to President Lula and follow the 80+ countries that want justice!
- History will remember what you decide today. Show courage, and add the roadmap to phase out coal, oil and gas – over 80 countries back it! #COP30
- This COP30 agreement must deliver justice and protect places like the Philippines and Jamaica, which have just survived deadly storms. Add a roadmap to phase out coal, oil and gas to the #COP30 agreement!
- We’re counting on you to show leadership right now and protect people, not polluters. We need a real plan to transition away from fossil fuels. Show leadership and add the roadmap to the #COP30 agreement!
If you’re on Bluesky, you can also send a pre-made post below.
Brazil’s COP30 President, Corrêa Do Lago, holds the pen in these negotiations. He has the power to get governments to back this vital roadmap in the final agreement. But he needs to show courage, not give in to polluters blocking it.
The latest draft I read this morning simply doesn’t go far enough. To truly protect people and the planet, we need: a clear plan to phase out fossil fuels, more finance from rich nations, and stronger support for communities facing superstorms, floods, droughts, and heatwaves.
Without these, the agreement won’t deliver justice or protect places like the Philippines and Jamaica, which have just survived deadly storms.
Here’s the good news: over 80 countries from around the world back the roadmap. And the COP30 President is under pressure from Brazil’s President Lula – he wants the roadmap in the text. With all this, if thousands of us flood their social media channels right now, the COP30 President will feel it.
Send your own message on Facebook, Bluesky or Instagram.
Here are the talking points again.

Every post counts. Every minute matters. Let’s make sure COP30 delivers what people need, not what polluters want.
