Hi John, it’s Josh Stein, Governor of North Carolina. I know I’ve reached out about the state of our health care system a lot – it’s because this issue is too big to ignore.

I’ll get straight to the point: Republican politicians are coming after our health care, but Democratic governors are fighting back.

If you agree that health care needs to be protected, not cut, will you sign my petition now to demand the GOP keep their hands off our care? I need 11,234 signatures on it before midnight.

Republicans in Washington are attacking the Affordable Care Act and gutting Medicaid. In July, they passed Trump’s budget bill that cuts a trillion dollars from Medicaid – all so they could pay for a billionaire tax break. And earlier this month, they let key subsidies expire that will raise health insurance prices by hundreds of dollars per month for millions of Americans.

At a time when so many families are struggling, it’s just plain wrong.

The last thing we should be doing is making health care more expensive, John. That’s why, while Republicans are skyrocketing prices, Dem govs are expanding health care access. In North Carolina, I’ve pushed for our state legislature to fully fund Medicaid – and last month, I was proud to announce that the North Carolina Medical Debt Relief Program erased more than $6.5 billion of medical debt for 2.5 million North Carolinians over the past year.

The federal government has abandoned our people, but Democratic governors like me won’t. We’ll work with our states to ensure folks can continue receiving the care they need to stay healthy, strengthen our rural health care systems, and save lives – but we need your support in this fight, John.
