From DC to the District

What You Should Know

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Thank you for taking the time to stay informed. Each week, I’m committed to keeping you updated on the work we’re doing in Congress and here at home. With the federal government now reopened and critical benefits fully restored, my focus remains on ensuring that families in our district feel the impact of that stability. As we gather with loved ones for Thanksgiving, I’m especially grateful for the resilience and engagement of our community, which continues to guide my work every day. From legislative debates in Washington to community events across our district, I want you to have a clear view of how your voice shapes our priorities and our progress. My hope is that this newsletter not only keeps you informed, but also helps you feel connected to the decisions and conversations that affect our community daily.

District Events

It was an honor to spend time at the Church of Pentecost USA. I appreciated the meaningful conversations and the prayers shared for our community.

I helped distribute more than 600 turkeys with Phipps in West Farms alongside BP Gibson, CM Feliz, and the wonderful Phipps team. I am grateful for everyone working to support our neighbors this holiday season.

D.C. Updates

I’m proud to join Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz in introducing the Housing Affordability Act (H.R. 6132) to update multifamily loan limits and help build more affordable housing. This bipartisan effort addresses rising costs and regulatory barriers so more families can secure a place they can afford to call home.

I voted yes on the Epstein Files Transparency Act (H.R. 4405) to ensure the Department of Justice releases all unclassified records and investigative materials related to Jeffrey Epstein and associated individuals. Supporting this bill reinforces transparency and accountability so that victims’ voices are heard and the public can understand the full scope of what occurred.

I joined my colleagues in urging the Department of Homeland Security to grant Temporary Protected Status for Jamaica in response to the severe devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, which has displaced families and created unsafe conditions. We also called on DHS to coordinate with federal, state, and international partners to support recovery efforts and reaffirmed that the United States must stand with Jamaica during this crisis.

I joined my colleagues in urging the Trump Administration to immediately release the maximum amount of Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding so families are not left without heat or cooling after shutdown delays, especially as energy costs rise and extreme temperatures become more frequent. LIHEAP helps low income families, seniors, and vulnerable households pay their energy bills, and I am fighting to ensure our district gets the support it relies on to stay safe at home.

I joined my colleagues in urging the Department of Justice to defend the Hispanic-Serving Institutions program, which provides critical funding and support to colleges serving large Hispanic populations. This program helps close educational and economic gaps, and its protection is essential to ensure equity and opportunity for millions of students nationwide.

Constituent of the Week: The Reverend Dr. Pierre-Andre Duvert

I’m proud to recognize The Reverend Dr. Pierre-Andre Duvert as this week’s Constituent of the Week. Born in Haiti and ordained in 1991 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Dr. Duvert has dedicated 34 years to ministry grounded in humility, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to justice. As Rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, one of the largest congregations in the Diocese, he has not only guided his parish with grace but has strengthened our wider community through initiatives like the Annual Police Appreciation Day, his leadership on diocesan committees focused on reparations and shared mission, and his mentorship of emerging faith leaders. With two doctorates and a lifetime of academic and spiritual service, Dr. Duvert exemplifies what it means to lead with both intellect and heart. I’m deeply grateful for his ministry and for the hope, healing, and unity he continues to inspire in our community.
