Email from Rep. Nehls Rep. Troy E. Nehls' Bill Passes House Judiciary Committee   Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap of what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington D.C. Rep. Troy E. Nehls’ REMOVE Act Passes House Judiciary Committee This week, the House Judiciary Committee held a markup and advanced several policies, including my bill, H.R. 4711, the Rapid Expulsion of Migrant Offenders who Violate and Evade (REMOVE) Act. My legislation mandates the federal government to complete removal proceedings of illegal aliens within 15 days, addressing delays that allow illegal aliens with criminal records to remain in our country. The REMOVE Act provides the resources needed for the Trump Administration to expeditiously remove criminal illegal aliens from the interior of our country. Watch my remarks on the REMOVE Act from the House Judiciary Committee markup HERE. As a former law enforcement official, I understand the crucial role that non-lethal devices play in protecting both officers and civilians by giving police officers alternatives to deadly force when confronting physical threats. The House Judiciary Committee also advanced H.R. 2189, the Law-Enforcement Innovate to De-Escalate Act of 2025, of which I am a proud cosponsor. This bill creates a new classification for less-lethal devices to prevent them from being improperly regulated as firearms, ensuring officers have the tools they need for safe, effective policing. It establishes a clear process for device classification and enhances access to modern, non-lethal technologies that support public safety and help our men and women in blue do their jobs. Watch my remarks on H.R. 2189 HERE. My House Judiciary Committee colleagues and I also voted to advance H.R. 4638, the Bill to Outlaw Wounding of Official Working Animals Act, H.R. 5713, Expedited Removal of Criminal Aliens Act, H.R. 2675, the Protecting Our Courts from Foreign Manipulation Act of 2025, and H.R. 6048, the NDO Fairness Act. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes to Release the Epstein Files This week, I voted "YES" to release the Epstein files. The Democrat Party, with help from the dishonest media, used the Epstein files not to seek justice for the victims, but to smear President Donald J. Trump. It's shameful. Democrats have used the Epstein files to distract the American people from the wins President Trump and his administration have delivered for the American people. I'm proud of the work my Republican colleagues on the House Oversight Committee have done in coordination with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). They have carefully and diligently released over 60,000 pages of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein; meanwhile, my Democrat colleagues selectively leaked and altered documents to mislead the American public. It's despicable that the Democrat Party started a smear campaign against President Trump, all the while turning a blind eye to a member of their own Party texting with Jeffrey Epstein in a 2019 congressional hearing. As President Trump has said, we have nothing to hide. I voted to release the files so that we can move on from the smear campaign the Democrats have manufactured against President Trump, and continue to work to advance policies that benefit hardworking Americans. Watch my remarks on the Capitol steps HERE and my speech on the House Floor HERE. Aviation Chairman Troy E. Nehls Joins Committee Leaders in Introducing a Bill to Protect Air Traffic Control System from Government Shutdowns As Chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee, I was proud to join Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO), Ranking Member Rick Larsen (D-WA), and Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN) in introducing the Aviation Funding Solvency Act. This legislation ensures that during any future government shutdown, the U.S. aviation system continues to operate safely and efficiently. The bill guarantees that Air Traffic Controllers and essential Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) personnel keep getting paid, so the National Airspace System is never put at risk. The Aviation Funding Solvency Act allows the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to access the Aviation Insurance Revolving Fund during a shutdown to maintain operations, while keeping the fund’s balance strong enough to cover insurance needs. This protects travelers, strengthens our national airspace, and prevents the disruptions we experienced during the recent and previous federal government shutdowns from ever happening again. Read more about the bill HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes "YES" to Making America Safe This week, I voted "YES" to restoring law and order, keeping violent criminals off our streets, and enhancing accountability. I supported H.R. 5214, the District of Columbia Cash Bail Reform Act of 2025, which would ban cashless bail in Washington, D.C., our nation's capital city. I'm a proud cosponsor of this legislation. Cashless bail allows violent criminals to roam freely on our streets. Currently, in Washington, D.C., a judge is able to release criminals back onto the streets, with only a promise from the offender that they will not reoffend, and will return to court for their trial. 27.2 million people visited our nation's capital in 2024. Americans and tourists from across the globe deserve to appreciate the beauty and history of our capital city without fear of being harmed by a violent criminal. I'm proud to see this legislation pass the U.S. House of Representatives. I also voted to pass H.R. 5107, the Common-Sense Law Enforcement and Accountability Now in DC Act of 2025. H.R. 5107 rolls back anti-police policies that have made it more difficult for law enforcement to tackle the rising violent crime rates. I'm a proud original cosponsor of this legislation that empowers our men and women in blue to do their jobs and protect Americans. This legislation establishes common sense policies in our nation's capital that ensure law enforcement officers have the authority to execute their duties reasonably and without fear of retribution. My House Republican colleagues and I are working to repeal anti-police policies that put criminals first and law enforcement officers last. As a former Sheriff, I will always back the blue. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes "YES" to Making Energy More Affordable This week, I voted "YES" on a set of bills that puts American energy back to work and drives down costs for American families. I supported S.J. Res. 80 to overturn the Biden Administration's move to lock up 12 million acres of Alaska’s energy resources, and H.J. Res. 130 to reverse his ban on new coal leasing in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin. I also voted to support H.J. Res. 131, which repeals Biden’s restrictions that blocked new oil and gas development in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. I voted in favor of H.R. 1949, the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2025, to lift unnecessary limits on liquid natural gas exports (LNG) so the U.S. can lead the world in energy production. I also voted for H.R. 3109, the Researching Efficient Federal Improvements for Necessary Energy Refining Act, or the REFINER Act, to strengthen our refining capacity and keep energy reliable and affordable. These bills all move us in the same direction: cutting costs, boosting American production, and ending the Biden Administration's anti-energy restrictions. Aviation Chairman Troy E. Nehls Joins American Aviation Leadership Summit's Fire Side Chat As Chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee, I was proud to participate in a fireside chat at the American Aviation Leadership Summit with my colleague, Representative Sharice Davids (D-KS), who serves on the House Aviation Subcommittee. Our discussion focused on the work Representative Davids and I are doing as part of the Bipartisan Air Traffic Control (ATC)/National Airspace System (NAS) Modernization Working Group. Since June, the bipartisan working group has held four sessions, hearing from a wide range of aviation industry stakeholders on the shortfalls of our aviation system and how we, as Congress, can modernize the system and prepare for the future. During the fireside chat, we also discussed my legislation, the Supersonic Aviation Modernization Act, which would require the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) administrator to revise certain regulations or issue new regulations to allow for the operation of supersonic civil aircraft. Operators would be permitted to fly their aircraft at supersonic speeds within the NAS as long as no sonic boom reaches the ground. Chinese state-owned Comac is already making strides to develop a supersonic jet called the C949. While Comac revealed its blueprints for its supersonic jet in March 2025, American companies such as Boom Supersonic have already developed aircraft capable of flying faster than the speed of sound, with no sonic boom reaching the ground. The United States of America is home to the only flying civil supersonic aircraft. Boom’s supersonic demonstrator, XB-1, broke the sound barrier six times earlier this year without exhibiting an audible sonic boom. This revolutionary innovation will help maintain America’s competitiveness on the world stage, all the while protecting the safety of the flying public and civilians on American soil. We are in a race against our foreign adversaries, and we must unleash American innovation and lift the ban on supersonic flight. I also talked about how we have the best team in the office with President Trump and his administration, including the Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Sean Duffy and FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford. In conjunction with the Trump Administration, we are working to modernize our airspace and bring in the next generation of American innovation. The future for American aviation is bright! Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes "YES" To Condemn the Horrors of Socialism Socialism is one of the most destructive ideologies in world history. Socialism has proven to be a failed experiment that only leads to communist regimes, totalitarian rule, and brutal dictatorships. More than 100 million people have been killed as a result of the mass murders and famines that accompany failed socialist states. Despite this, we are seeing a rise in Americans, especially among young Americans, who support socialism. This is extremely troubling. Socialism starves families of basic necessities, promising equity for all, but leads to rationing and famine. Hyperinflation is a feature of socialism, stealing your paycheck and destroying affordability. This week, I joined my House Republican colleagues in voting to pass H.Con.Res.58, a resolution that denounces the horrors of socialism. I'm an original cosponsor of this straightforward resolution. Socialism has no place in the United States of America. The free market and capitalism are the only cures for the extreme horrors of socialism. This Week in Texas' 22nd District Rep. Troy E.
