Fireside Sessions
From rejecting the failed economic theory of socialism to taking meaningful steps to lower energy costs, this was a productive week in Washington. The House voted on five bills focused on reducing energy costs for Texans and families across the country. Affordable energy is the foundation of an affordable future, and House Republicans are united in our efforts to deliver real relief for the people we serve.
Thank you for staying engaged and for the thoughtful feedback many of you shared throughout this process. I remain committed to tackling these challenges with transparency, a readiness to work across the aisle, and a steadfast focus on protecting taxpayers and strengthening the long-term health of our economy.
House Financial Services Hearing
This week, Congressman Sessions participated in an important Financial Services Committee hearing titled “The Future of Deposit Insurance: Exploring the Coverage, Costs, and Depositor Confidence.” The discussion centered on how we maintain a safe, stable financial system that works for everyone. During the hearing, the Congressman underscored a simple principle: Americans deserve a level playing field where their local, community, and regional banks can compete fairly.
These institutions serve as the financial backbone of towns across our district. They support small businesses, first-time homebuyers, farmers, and families who depend on personal relationships. But as we learned during the Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) collapse, the playing field is anything but level. When panic hits, depositors, understandably, rush their money to the nation’s largest banks, not because those banks necessarily offer better service, but because the public assumes that “too big to fail” means “too big to worry.” That dynamic punishes smaller banks that did nothing wrong. They lose deposits and face competitive disadvantages through no fault of their own.
House Rules Committee Testimony
This week I spoke before the Rules Committee, a Committee I once chaired, discussing the importance of two bills relating to law and order here in the District of Columbia. Like all legislation, these bills must come before the Rules Committee for consideration prior to reaching the floor. Protecting the safety of every citizen of our country, including those in our nation’s Capital is our highest priority.
