Below is Joe Biden’s newsletter for July 15, 2020. Please submit questions and feedback here.
Hi folks,
I hope you and your family are doing well. Writing to you today with a few updates from the campaign.
Across the country, COVID-19 cases are rising, and this country is in need of clear and steady leadership.
My team has been hard at work here doing what we can: developing policies that will help Americans in this crisis and beyond and uplifting the essential workers who are keeping us safe.
And ultimately, we’re building a campaign that can beat Donald Trump and restore the leadership Americans deserve in the Oval Office.
So listen, I hope in this time of uncertainty, this campaign can serve as a place for you to stay informed and feel empowered to play a leadership role in the battle for the soul of this nation.
Every email you read, volunteer action you take, and donation you make are an act of fighting back and fighting alongside me. So thank you. Let’s get into it.
Joe

Campaign Updates
I’ve spent the past few weeks developing an economic recovery agenda that will meet this moment, create high-paying jobs that provide a choice to join a union, and work for all Americans.
Yesterday, I announced a plan to create millions of good-paying, union jobs that will solve our jobs crisis while addressing our existential climate crisis. You can read more about our plan for a clean energy future here: https://joebiden.com/Clean-Energy/
I’m no stranger to inheriting an economic recession, and I know that it takes more than just building back up to where we were -- we need to build back better than before.
I’m introducing a comprehensive plan to do just that, with the following focal points:
-
Mobilize American manufacturing and innovation to ensure that the future is made in America, and in all of America. Read more here: https://joebiden.com/madeinamerica/
-
Mobilize American ingenuity to build a modern infrastructure and an equitable, clean energy future.
-
Mobilize American talent and heart to build a 21st-century caregiving and education workforce, which will help ease the burden of care for working parents, especially women.
-
Mobilize across the board to advance racial equity in America.
You can read more about my Build Back Better plan by clicking here.
And you can watch a video my team put together with a little help from some familiar faces here:
Another thing we talk about a lot here, is fundraising.
And that’s because, thanks to all of you, we’re getting pretty darn good at it.
Online grassroots donations make up 97% of our campaign’s contributions, and that’s allowed us to surpass Trump and the RNC’s fundraising two months in a row.
Now, to make it three months in a row, I’m going to need all of my supporters to pitch in their first donation of July to help us get there. If you’re able, will you contribute?

What I’m Reading This Week
“Republicans Committed to Florida Convention Despite Coronavirus Surge” -- The New York Times
I’m glad that the Democratic National Convention will still be anchored in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and I am proud that our party will be prioritizing the health and safety of all of our candidates, supporters, and the staff that makes events like these even possible by conducting much of the official proceedings remotely. I strongly encourage the RNC to do the same and not put any of their own supporters or workers in Florida at risk.
“This Isn’t Sustainable for Working Parents” -- The Atlantic
As someone who has been a single parent, this article really hit home for me. The pandemic has made raising a child as a working parent, an already difficult task, even more challenging as childcare options are limited, and some parents must take on the task, in partnership with educators, of helping their children learn remotely. I was lucky enough to have a lot of help from my family as a young single father, but I’ve never lost that commitment to helping families like mine, and in a Biden Administration, I’m committed to making sure no one, especially working parents, gets left behind.

Hey Joe!
People send me questions every day. I like to take time to answer a couple of them.
Question from Denise in Atlanta, GA: I taught teenagers for 33 years and I think we all know that children are our greatest hope. What will a Biden presidency do to ensure a robust and equal education for every child in America? PS. Our next Secretary of Education should be a TEACHER!
First of all Denise, thank you for your years of teaching. As you know, my wife is an educator, and I have nothing but the highest respect for teachers. I know how hard your jobs are, and this country owes you a great deal of gratitude.
As President, I plan to build an education system that starts investing in our children at birth and helps every student get some education beyond a high school diploma, whether a certification, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree. Systemic racism is persistent across our institutions today -- including in our education system -- and must be addressed. No child’s educational opportunity should be determined by their zip code, parents’ income, race, or disability. We need to invest in our public schools to eliminate the funding gap between majority white and majority non-white districts, and rich and poor districts. We also need to improve diversity among teachers.
And yes, Denise, I couldn’t agree with you more -- our next Secretary of Education should be a public school teacher. Four years of Betsy DeVos is more than enough. We need a Secretary of Education who understands what our students and teachers are facing each day.
Question from Maria in Las Vegas, NV: I’m dying to know who you are going to choose to pick as your Vice President! Any hints?
You’ll have to stay tuned to find out! But in the meantime, you can sign up here to be one of the first to find out.

Spread the Faith
As all of us are painfully aware, the coronavirus is on an upswing across many parts of our country. But I am so incredibly proud and impressed by the way the people of this country have responded.
We know it’s working. On Sunday, for the first time in four months, New York City reported zero deaths from coronavirus. That’s a team effort.
As we feel beaten down and overwhelmed by the virus, remember that it is possible to defeat it. That eventually, we will be able to regain control of our lives. And that there is hope for those currently fighting outbreaks in their states.
People coming together to help one another during tough times is the cornerstone of this country.
One group continuing to struggle in this new normal are restaurant workers. So, if you are able to, please consider making a donation to the Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation’s Emergency Relief Fund:
