Dear John,

Today is Women’s Equality Day, which celebrates the anniversary of the 19th Amendment. It’s an important time to celebrate the progress we have made, and also frankly to get pissed off.

With abortion bans that make basic healthcare way too hard to access, it’s clear that women and people who can become pregnant aren’t being respected under the law. Give now to fight for full gender equality.

Though the 19th Amendment says “the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex,” women did not ‘win’ the right to vote in 1920 because Black women continued to be systematically denied the right to vote through several additional decades of Jim Crow laws. And, it’s 2019 and voter suppression targeting people of color remains an urgent threat to democracy.

Still, the 19th Amendment is a BFD and a significant point of progress on the journey toward justice. Women used direct action protest to make it happen.

Our theory of change uses direct action to take on the sexist, racist bigots. You may not see us in hoop skirts, but like our foremothers we are not afraid of the White House and we will get it done. Give now and join us.

For equality,

Erin Matson
Co-Founder/Co-Director, Reproaction

P.S. Abortion isn’t just a “women’s equality” issue. But there is no such thing as equality for women without access to abortion. Give now.
