Releasing the Epstein Files

This week, I voted to release the Epstein files.

The legislation passed by the House, H.R. 4405, the Epstein Files Transparency Act, requires the Department of Justice to publish all unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials that relate to the investigation and prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein.

This includes materials that relate to Ghislaine Maxwell, flight logs and travel records, and individuals named or referenced in connection with the investigation and prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein.

While Jeffrey Epstein is dead, the fact remains that his victims were trafficked, their innocence exploited, and they deserve justice for the heinous crimes committed by this horrible man.

The entirety of the debate around releasing the Epstein files has been centered around one thing, transparency. My top priority in releasing these files has been protecting the victims, especially the minors, as well as ensuring any unsealed information does not interfere with active pursuits of justice.

We must prioritize the sensitivity of the victims’ privacy while we work to show Americans that these disgusting crimes will not be kept in the dark.

Fighting Newborn Opioid Dependency

Image

Yesterday, I introduced the Maddie's Infant Recovery and Children's Legislative Emergency (MIRACLE) Act alongside Rep. Michael Baumgartner (R-WA) and Rep. Kim Schrier (D-WA) to study Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS).

As the opioid and drug epidemics spread through communities in Central Washington, and across the country, there is very little being done to address its impacts on the next generation.

NAS is a critical condition that puts newborns in a situation they had no control over, with serious, lasting implications threatening their health early on. This legislation directs federal resources to expand our understanding of NAS, close gaps in research and data on how it affects babies, and ensure we are equipped to treat this condition through our federal healthcare system.

The MIRACLE Act will provide Congress and all 50 states with the data needed to shape evidence-based and cost-effective policies that address NAS nationwide.

Competing with China on Critical Minerals

Image

This week, the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) held a hearing for our bipartisan investigation examining how the CCP manipulates the critical minerals markets to further its global authoritarian ambitions.

As China continues to dominate the critical mineral supply chain, it is imperative that the U.S. creates a new framework for both competing with China and strengthening our reserves of rare earth elements here at home.

Meeting with Secretary Burgum

Image

On Tuesday, I joined my colleagues from the Western Caucus in a conversation with U.S. Secretary of Interior Doug Burgum about protecting public lands.

Across Central Washington, public lands deliver a variety of benefits to our communities. From recreational activities like hunting, fishing, and hiking, to economic factors like timber harvesting and livestock grazing, our public lands are vital to our way of life.

I am working closely with the Department of Interior to make sure our public lands continue to contribute to our livelihoods and local economies.

Welcoming the Ambassador from Mexico

Image

This week, I had the opportunity to welcome Ambassador Esteban Moctezuma from Mexico to my office for a productive conversation on U.S.-Mexico relations.

We discussed trade and immigration policies, and how we can work together to strengthen ties as both of these topics remain in the spotlight.

I thank the Ambassador for his time and look forward to working together going forward.
