Email from Rep. Carter My work in TX-31 and Congress Dear Texan, I wanted to provide you with an update on my work for Texas' 31st District in the United States House of Representatives. ON THE DOCKET: Securing the Border and Putting Texans First Protecting Children Honoring Vietnam Veterans Supporting Texas Farmers SECURING THE BORDER AND PUTTING TEXANS FIRST This week, I joined Senators Cornyn and Cruz in sending a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, advocating for Texas to be reimbursed for the costs incurred to secure the border during the Biden-Harris administration. Texas invested over $13 billion to combat President Biden's refusal to enforce immigration laws, which resulted in 1.7 million aliens illegally entering the country. Under President Trump and Republican leadership, zero illegal aliens have been released into the country in the last six months, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, so now that the border is secure, my colleagues and I from Texas are asking for Texas taxpayers to be reimbursed for the failures of Biden's immigration policies. PROTECTING AMERICA'S CHILDREN I joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers to send a letter to online retailer Shein's CEO, Yangtian Xu, this week. The letter demanded answers regarding Shein allowing third-party vendors to sell childlike adult dolls in America. These obscene products are known to endanger children and encourage pedophilia, so Shein must be held accountable and commit to stronger controls that will prevent these predatory products from entering the market. We must protect America's children and hold any online retailers accountable for selling inappropriate products that encourages the abuse of children. To learn more about the letter, click here. HONORING VIETNAM VETERANS When Vietnam servicemembers returned home from war, they weren't greeted with gratitude or celebrated for their sacrifice. It was an unacceptable response to the men and women who wore America's uniform and fought on our behalf, so I find it especially important to honor these veterans today. I recently joined a pinning ceremony for Vietnam veterans in Georgetown to say thank you on behalf of a grateful nation. I enjoyed meeting over 100 Vietnam veterans and hearing many of their stories from their time in the service. SUPPORTING TEXAS FARMERS I met with Texas farmers and ranchers this week to discuss agriculture issues like the New World screwworm, a dangerous insect that could decimate livestock populations, and how trade agreements are impacting their business. The hardworking people in farming and ranching keep Americans fed and clothed. It's crucial that Congress support them, and in the recent Agriculture appropriations bill that was just signed into law, Congress met that goal. The bill invests over $1 billion in the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to protect against pests and diseases impacting crops and livestock. It also continues critical investments in rural communities and agriculture research and prevents foreign ownership of U.S. agricultural land. As always, thank you for staying engaged with the latest updates from Texas’ 31st Congressional District. It is an honor and a privilege to represent you and our great state in the United States House of Representatives. Sincerely, John R. Carter Visit our website!
