John,
Earlier this month, Tim reached out and asked if you would fill out our Gun Violence Survey to share your thoughts on this critical issue impacting our state and country. So, we wanted to report back.
Out of more than 1,300 responses:
99% said that gun violence prevention is very important or important to them.
97% support Tim and Minnesota Democrats’ proposed ban on assault-style weapons.
97% support Tim and Minnesota Democrats’ proposed ban on high-capacity magazines.
When asked what else should be done to address this deadly epidemic, many folks expressed support for: safe storage requirements, mandatory gun safety courses, better domestic violence prevention, universal background checks, waiting periods, and red flag laws.
We were heartbroken to hear that multiple people who took our survey have been directly affected by gun violence. Quite a few teachers mentioned the reality of doing countless lockdown drills and having hard conversations with their students about mass shootings.
We also heard from a handful of people who are hunters, members of military families, and responsible gun owners who strongly support these kinds of common-sense measures to keep deadly weapons out of the wrong hands.
Gun violence prevention is one of Tim’s top priorities as governor, and right now, he’s continuing to hold town halls on the topic and working to build support for his proposed assault weapons and high-capacity magazine bans.
If we’re going to keep making progress and prevent more gun-related tragedies from happening, Minnesota can’t afford to lose a gun reform champion like Tim in next year’s election.
Thank you for all you do,
Team Walz
