We knew Donald Trump’s rhetoric would get worse. But this week, he crossed a line no American president ever has.

After a group of Democratic veterans and national security leaders released a simple, factual video reminding service members that they must refuse illegal orders — a principle written directly into the Uniform Code of Military Justice — Trump erupted.

He called them “traitors.”

He accused them of “seditious behavior.”

And then he demanded they be “locked up.”

But it didn’t stop there.

Trump reposted a call for these Democratic veterans to be hanged — and then personally declared that their behavior was “punishable by DEATH.”

We have a president who is spiraling, escalating, and openly threatening political opponents with execution.

Even some Republicans are nervously distancing themselves. They know Trump’s words are dangerous. They know this is how political violence starts. Democrats in Congress are already asking for increased security because they’re worried, legitimately, about their safety.

John, this is not normal. It’s not stable. And it’s not something we can sit out.

At a moment when Trump is lighting a match in a country soaked in political gasoline, we need to show resistance.

We need to show that Americans still believe in democracy, the rule of law, and a military that serves the Constitution, not a single man’s whims.
