In Dearborn, Michigan, the Muslim call to prayer (the Adhan) is now blasted over loudspeakers across the city FIVE times every single day, starting as early as 6 a.m.
Local residents have repeatedly complained about the noise, citing existing noise ordinances. But instead of listening to his own citizens, Mayor Abdullah Hammoud is aggressively defending the amplified Islamic chants, claiming any restriction would be “Islamophobic.”
This isn’t about private worship inside a mosque. This is government-permitted loudspeakers forcing an Islamic religious ritual into every neighborhood, every day, whether residents want to hear it or not.
When one faith is given special permission to violate noise laws and dominate public soundspace, while Christian church bells or any other religious expression would never be tolerated at this volume, something has gone seriously wrong with the idea of equal treatment under the law.
America was founded on religious freedom, not religious privilege.
Do you believe the Muslim call to prayer should be allowed in public spaces in America, broadcast over loudspeakers five times a day, overriding local noise laws?
