<[link removed]>John, a few weeks ago we asked you to help us choose our campaigning priorities.
Thousands of our members replied, and called for a public inquiry on the Government’s handling of coronavirus.
Today shows how influential Liberal Democrat MPs can be. You can read coverage here <[link removed]>, here <[link removed]> and here <[link removed]>.
Ed Davey MP has been pushing for an independent public inquiry at Prime Minister’s Question Time and Johnson finally agreed to hold one in his response today.
And Layla Moran MP has led a group of parliamentarians from across all parties to set up and hold a parliamentary inquiry that starts work and takes evidence straight away.
This will help our country learn from the mistakes the Government has made in its public health response, neglect of care homes, confusing slogans, and poor guidance.
Now, the task will be to hold Boris Johnson to his word - something he’s not known for. We must have a public inquiry NOW, so lessons can be learned before any second peak of the virus hits us.
I want to say thank you to all our members and supporters who’ve helped us focus, and backed our campaign. That’s how political parties should work, and how our country gets better.
Please share this news. Tell your friends about what Liberal Democrats have achieved today, whether that’s on Twitter <[link removed]> or Facebook <[link removed]>, on a phone call, or over a socially distanced cup of tea.
Best wishes,
Alistair Carmichael MP
