This week, right-wing Israeli lawmakers submitted a bill to advance unilateral annexation of huge portions of the West Bank.

It’s a maneuver designed to force Netanyahu to follow through on his annexation pledge -- and the bill’s backers are pushing for a vote as early as next week.

For all of us battling against annexation and standing up for the interests of Israelis and Palestinians, this is an urgent reminder that we can’t be complacent. We have to keep mobilizing this powerful movement against annexation and occupation, and in support of peace, democracy and equality. As I write to you, there’s no doubt that the global movement against annexation has helped forestall and frustrate the right-wing’s plan to kill off hope for Palestinian statehood and Israel’s future as a democratic homeland for the Jewish people.

Israel’s pro-annexation lobby can see the impact we’re making -- and they’re worried. MK Haim Katz of the Likud Party, one of the MKs who submitted the new annexation bill, said that “the longer we delay, the more difficult the reality on the ground will be” and warned that “the window of opportunity for American support” was closing.

Correct.

At J Street, we’re committed to keeping up this fight, to ousting Trump and to slamming that annexation window shut. Already, we’re building support for new legislative action to make America’s long-term opposition to annexation clear -- including a Senate measure that would ensure no American taxpayer funds could be used to help implement it.
