Stop AI from exploiting civil rights leaders

John,

Right now, racist AI videos created with OpenAI’s Sora 2 are going viral, and they’re targeting Black women and distorting our history in dangerous ways.

AI-generated videos show fake Black women wearing bonnets, using exaggerated AAVE, yelling about losing food stamps. One of these racist, degrading videos has over 14 million views.

And it doesn't stop there. The same AI tools are being used to manipulate speeches from the civil rights era, putting words in the mouths of deceased leaders who fought and died for our freedom. They're trying to rewrite history while creating fake “angry Black women” videos. And some are using the videos to justify cutting the safety net to mock our communities.

This is not harmless. It is a direct attack on our communities and our legacy.

And OpenAI is enabling it.

TELL OPENAI TO STOP ENABLING DIGITAL RACISM

That’s why Color Of Change is demanding Sora:

  1. Build strict civil rights protections into Sora that automatically prevent racist, stereotypical, or degrading content before it’s generated.
  2. Establish an independent Civil Rights Advisory Council with the authority to review harms, set standards, and audit updates.
  3. Enforce zero-tolerance consequences for misuse by permanently suspending accounts that attempt to generate racist or hateful content.

SIGN THE PETITION TO OPENAI

This moment demands action. We’ve seen what happens when tech companies “move fast and break things” — they break our communities first.

Add your name now and then share this petition with three friends. Every signature matters. Every voice counts. Our ancestors didn’t march so their communities could be twisted by algorithms.

PROTECT OUR COMMUNITIES. STOP DIGITAL RACISM.
