BREAKING: Trump announces 1.27 billion acre offshore drilling plan
Dear Friend,
The Trump administration just announced a new federal offshore drilling plan to dramatically expand oil and gas sales in the Gulf of Mexico, the Arctic, and California.
The plan would auction off public waters across approximately 1.27 billion acres, including places where drilling has never happened, or where lease sales have not been held for decades.
Trump's plan would risk the health and well-being of millions of people who live along our coasts. It would also devastate countless ocean ecosystems that both humans and wildlife rely on. It is unjust, unnecessary, and unsustainable.

The Trump administration is threatening to impose offshore oil drilling on states, cities, and communities that do not want drilling off their shores and in their public waters.
  • In California, the plan proposes six offshore lease sales between 2027 and 2030, the first time there has been one in the state since 1984.
  • In the eastern Gulf, lease sales in 2029 and 2030 could result in an oil spill that contaminates the entire Gulf coast of Florida.
  • In Alaska, the plan proposes over 20 lease sales through 2031, including in the High Arctic, which stretches 200 miles into the Arctic Ocean and has never seen offshore drilling.
In addition to these 34 scheduled oil sales, President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” will also force 30 massive oil sales in the Gulf over the next 15 years and six in Alaska’s Cook Inlet, a breeding area for Beluga whales.
Preventing new offshore drilling in California, the Arctic, and the Gulf of Mexico will be a top priority of Earthjustice in the coming years, and we are already suing over the Trump administration’s first offshore oil sale. This is a battle we are very familiar with.
Since Trump first took office in 2017, Earthjustice lawsuits have successfully stalled or cancelled dozens of destructive fossil fuel projects.
  • Just this year, we stopped a 73 million acre lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico from going forward
  • Earthjustice lawsuits contributed to the cancellation of the massive Peregrine drilling project in Alaska
  • We succeeded in stopping the first Trump administration from opening 128 million acres of the Arctic and Atlantic oceans to offshore drilling.
Your support has been critical every step of the way — thank you. Right now, anything you give will be matched to double your impact.
Our planet cannot afford the explosion of new fossil fuel infrastructure Trump envisions. Anything you give today will be doubled to help us scale up and fight back — for the sake of our communities, our planet, and our future.
