Hi John, my name is Shawn Werner. I’m Sister District’s Organizing and Political Director. I’ve been thinking so much about what this grassroots team accomplished this year, and I’m genuinely in awe.

Because thousands of you stayed engaged, volunteered, donated, and kept pushing, we turned our strategy into real results. Together, we:

Elected 23 Democrats
Secured a blue trifecta in Virginia
Held the line in Minnesota
Shattered Republican supermajorities in the Iowa and Mississippi Senate

These victories strengthened Democratic firewalls against the Trump administration and opened the door for progress on abortion rights, marriage equality, voting rights, and redistricting.

But here’s a part I don’t want us to forget: The foundation of these wins was built long before Election Day. We don’t win if we show up a few weeks before Election Day. We were one of the earliest national organizations to enter the field in Virginia, and those early investments and organizing made these wins possible.

That’s why our team is already deep into the next phase of planning and budgeting. Because we know that the work we do right now will determine how big we win in 2026.

And while we’re gearing up, Republicans are too. They’re rigging maps, recruiting early, and relying on right-wing billionaires to fund their operations to control our states.
